Annuale 2025: Stunde Null? Wie wir wurden , was wir sind.
There is a strange vagueness about being a „Nachwendekind“: It is not our experiences which we are talking about when we talk about GDR - yet we experienced (some of it) second hand and for sure we also know certain smells and practises from that time which faded away over the years. We never experienced „the wall“ as a physical wall, yet we can feel something differ, when we meet people our age from the west of Germany.
Walls become membranes, become permeable - which is a topic which is reassuring a lot in my artistic works, be it in form of body politics, critic on remembrance cultures or translating as a method. I think it does something with you to grow up in a place and time which is very certain about uncertainty. Yet it is very hard to find words for that situation, or even more, way of thinking we kinda learned by growing up in that situation. This peculiarity of history, those processes of disappearing, the gaps, holes and frictions created by that is something which really interests me - socially, politically, personally.
